ALBANY- Janet M. King, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Teresian House.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Daniel and Eleanor (Boniface) King. Janet graduated from St. Ann’s Academy and the College of St. Rose where she received her Bachelor’s degree in education. She was a Sister of Mercy for 21 years in the teaching ministry. Upon leaving religious life, she continued to serve God and her students as a first grade teacher at area Catholic schools. She will forever be remembered for her famous rock; her first grade students always knew when Miss King wanted their attention by the sound of a simple tap of the rock on her desk. Janet was an active volunteer and a long time Communicant of The Parish of Mater Christi.

Survivors include her brother John “Jack” King and his wife Kathleen of Albany; her sister Patricia Farrier and her husband Robert of Largo, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A special “Thank You” to Liz Dale and all the staff of Carmel Gardens East at the Teresian House for the loving care and kindness extended to Janet and her family.

Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. Wednesday January 31st from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany thence to The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Albany where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with her family Tuesday, January 30th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
