ALBANY- William H. Kavanaugh, 87, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021. Born in Albany to Henry and Margaret Hahn Kavanaugh, he graduated from St. Teresa elementary school, CBA and Siena College. He served in the US Army stationed in Korea. Bill had a long and distinguished career as a Claims Adjustor with Kemper Insurance including working the “big cases” with some of Albany’s finest attorneys. He was past president of the Albany Claims Association. Bill was also a proud member of the Albany Elks.
He was active in the former St. Catherine of Siena parish and was past president of the Parish Council and member of the school board. Bill enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and he never met a do-it-yourselfproject he couldn’t conquer.
Survivors include his four children Diane Rigney (Robert), Susan Hacker (James), David Kavanaugh (Donna) and James Kavanaugh (Jeanne); and his wife Barbara. He is also survived by beloved grandchildren (who affectionately called him Grandpa Barney), Joseph and Clare Rigney, Kathryn and Jonathan Hacker, Brendan, Erin Waterman (Matthew)and Leanna Kavanaugh, Sheamus and Jillian Kavanaugh. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald and his sister Margaret Kavanaugh.
The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center for their kind and compassionate care, especially JoAnne.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Thursday, June 24, from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Interment will be held privately.
