Joseph Guy Martial

ALBANY- Joseph Guy Martial, known to all simply as Guy, passed away on March 2, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on March 19, 1947, in Jeremie, Haiti, Guy spent much of his adult life in Brooklyn, New York, where he created many cherished memories. In retirement, he spent some time back in his hometown of Jeremie before relocating to Albany, NY, to be with his daughter, Dominique, and to receive medical care.

Guy was a proud, confident man whose self-assuredness and unyielding will were evident to all who knew him. His life was defined by unwavering pride and determination, and he always faced challenges head-on. Whether navigating the trials of everyday life or the difficulties of aging, Guy never backed down from a fight. His combative spirit reflected his resilience; he refused to be defeated, maintaining his strength and dignity until the very end.

Guy enjoyed cooking whenever he could, always ensuring there was a sweet treat nearby. He took great pleasure in reminiscing about his years in Brooklyn and his homeland of Haiti. Guy was also deeply committed to staying connected to news from Haiti, expressing genuine concern for the struggles facing his country and the people he held dear.

In his later years, Guy bravely battled lung cancer and dementia. Despite these challenges, he remained strong and defiant, with a steadfast belief that there was nothing he couldn’t do. His passing was sudden and left a void in the hearts of those who loved him. However, his spirit and memory will forever endure.

Guy is survived by his two daughters, two sons, and five grandchildren.

A farewell ceremony will be held at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave, Albany, NY 12209 on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
