Joseph E. Herold

DELMAR - Joseph E. Herold, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday November 29, 2024. He was born in Albany on June 28, 1931 to the late Joseph and Irene Herold. Joe was a graduate of CBA and attended Albany Business College. He worked for the Department of Taxation and Finance, receiving the Commissioner's Award. Joe retired in 1993 after over 40 years of service. One of Joe’s greatest passions was baseball. He was one of the original founders of Whitehall Little League in 1955. He served the league for 45 years as manager, coach, mentor, and player agent. In appreciation for his service, a baseball field was named in his honor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Herold.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nickie Herold; daughter Cathy (Al) Sitterly, sons Joseph (Jane) Herold and Thomas (Laurie) Herold; four grandchildren, Jessica (Matt), Heather (Matt), Thomas and Stephanie (Tom); four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Owen, Nora and Cameron; his sister-in-law, Annie DiGiulio; and life long friend, Ronnie Sontz.

A calling hour will be held on Wednesday December 4th from 10 to 11am at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment to follow at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
