ALBANY- John N. Travis passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024 with his wife and his son by his side, after a long battle with Parkinson's. John was born to Kenneth Travis and Roseida Gable Travis on August 12,1950.
He attended St Ann’s Church where he served as an altar boy through college. He graduated from Siena College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1972.
He attended Cardinal McCloskey High School and in 1967 while attending a basketball game, he met Elizabeth (Betty) Carmody. They married July 1 1972 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
During the last several years John was at hospitals, nursing homes, medical appointments and procedures. All under the watchful caring eye of Betty, his wife, advocate and faithful companion. Together with their shared faith in God she made sure nothing was missed and that he got the care he deserved. She stood by his side as his fierce ally until his last moments.
John worked for Albany County as County Historian & Real Property Tax Investigator for many years after previously working as a manager for Friendly’s Ice Cream.
He continued his family tradition of service to the Lord and worked tirelessly as Head Usher, Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the Cathedral for many years.
He was also a proud member of the St Vincent de Paul Society and volunteered with the Stratton VA. Hospital
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Kenneth (Carol) Travis, two sisters Anna Anastasia and Rosemary Soraghan (Bud) and his brother-in-law Thomas Bruno. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Carmody Travis and his children, John Francis Travis Sr. (Jessica Anna), Bridget Eileen Travis (Cliff Harrington), and his grandson John Francis Jr. He is survived by his two sisters Mary Bruno and Corinne Holbine, as well as his brother-in-law Joesph Anastasia. John is also survived by many caring and loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 125 Eagle St. Albany, on Friday July 19, 2024 at 10 am and may also visit with John’s family prior to the Mass from 9 am to 10 am at the Cathedral. Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cathedral Restoration Fund, 125 Eagle St., Albany NY 122O2.
