John, Rashida

ALBANY – Rashida John, 90, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 7 Swartson Court with her son, Ernest and daughter, Ernestina at her side and surrounded by her loving extended family.

Born, October 26, 1927 in Gillwala, Sargodha, Pakistan, she was the daughter of the late Soun Lal and Gulab Bibi. She graduated from High School in Sargodha and earned her RN degree in Lahore, Pakistan. Rashida worked as a registered nurse at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, Pakistan.

In 1955, she married John Adiel and devoted her time to being a homemaker and raising her family. She was widowed in 1974. Rashida was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Emmaus UMC. After the death of her husband, she ministered as a “Prayer Warrior” for those seeking spiritual intervention.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her son, Kenneth John (1960-1980) and her granddaughter, Amy John (18). Survivors include four children, Ernest John (Lily John) of Albany, Ernestina John (Aurelius John) of Albany, Noel John (Ellen John) of Delmar and Ghazala Mall (Asif Mall) of Delmar; 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 85 Elm Ave. Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with her family at the Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
