Joan A. (Cunningham) Tateo, 87, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital following a short illness surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Albany, Joan was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Shields) Cunningham. She was a graduate of The Cathedral Academy, a devout catholic and active communicant of the Parish of Mater Christi, and a lifelong member of the Columbiettes. She was a longtime Avon Sales Representative and worked as a Payroll Administrator for the Albany City School District.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She would often share stories of her childhood and many summers spent with her sisters at Marion Lodge in Paradox, NY. She also enjoyed reading, traveling with family and friends, making trips to casinos, and spending the winter months with Annie in Florida and Nick in Arizona. Her oldest son Jack was delighted whenever she would call to ask “I need a quick favor from you…” whenever she needed a repair project done or a list of items picked up at the supermarket. Generations of family and friends loved coming to her home for dinner, especially if it was homemade pizza night.
Joan touched a lot of people in her life and everyone loved her for her kindness. She was a guardian angel to many and everyone knew to go to her if they needed someone to be added to her long running prayer list. She will be greatly missed.
Joan was the widow of her loving husband of 53 years, Nicholas V. Tateo, who died in 2010. She is the mother of Maria Tateo, Jack Tateo (Kathy), Nick Tateo (Virginia), Annie Patterson (Rob), and the late Eileen Tateo-Beebe; son-in-law Richard Beebe; grandmother of Jim Tateo (Lindsay), Kristie Snow (Nick), Robby Tateo, Kristen Hanley, Ryan Hanley, Lauren Patterson, Gus the Dog, and the late Meghan Beebe; great-grandmother of Kylie, Kellen, and Lincoln Snow; sister to the late Kay (Joseph) Cacciola, the late Barbara Cunningham, and the late Maureen Cunningham; and remembered by extended family members Rosana Michela, Joe Michela, and Nancy Boulette. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
