Janet I. Himmelberger

ALBANY - Janet Himmelberger, 59, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday November 14, 2024, succumbing to cancer after a courageous battle. Janet was born on September 26, 1965 to the late Margo Ryan Meissner and Lee F. Himmelberger in Albany, NY. She lived in Albany her entire life, raising her best friend and daughter, Meghan Cyr. Janet worked at Jack’s Oyster House for 15 years, meeting many people from different walks of life.  After deciding to change direction in life, she spent the next 25 years helping to keep the grounds of the SUNY administration building beautiful, which was acknowledged when she was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in 2015. Janet enjoyed spending time outside, whether it be at work or in her own garden. A nature enthusiast and avid gardener, and ironically allergic to fresh cut flowers, she enjoyed bird watching, having fires, and watching Murder She Wrote marathons into the wee hours. Janet always looked forward to her annual birthday adventures to Maine with her daughter and sister. Janet was predeceased by her beloved brother, Christopher Lenaghan, Godmother Jeanette Bryce, and both parents.

Janet will be dearly missed by her daughter Meghan Cyr (Jon Mack), twisted sister Marguerite Allardice (Scott Allardice), brother Erik Himmelberger, goddaughter and niece Katy Paulsen (Dennis Paulsen) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, located all over the world.

Janet has been privately cremated. Memorial calling hours will be held on Wednesday November 20th from 4pm-7pm, with a service at 6pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, an organization Janet felt strongly about.
