ALBANY - James E. Albert, affectionately known as "Jimmy," aged 51, passed away at Albany Medical Center on January 5th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmy was born on December 3, 1973, in Albany, NY. Jimmy was a beloved son, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth and humor. He dedicated his life to Albany Medical Center as a Dialysis Tech, where he made lasting contributions and built cherished relationships with patients and colleagues alike. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his career; Jimmy proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for the Knox Fire Department for many years until he retired due to his illness. Outside of his professional life, Jimmy was passionate about the outdoors. He often spent his free time hiking, kayaking, or simply taking in the natural beauty of the world around him. His love for nature was infectious, inspiring those around him to appreciate life's simple pleasures.
Jimmy is survived by his son Andrew Albert, his parents William and Mary Albert, his brother John (Donna) Albert, and his niece and nephew, Sean and Ashley Albert, who will forever cherish his memory. He is also fondly remembered by his late companion Mary Hollner's family, who became an important support for Jimmy throughout his battle. He was predeceased by his brother William Albert and his companion Mary Hollner.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 9th from 5-7 pm at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home on Delaware Ave in Albany, to celebrate Jimmy's life. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 10th at 12:30 pm, beginning at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at St. Agnes Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately after at the Latham Fire Department on Old Loudon Road to continue the celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, which aligns with his long and courageous battle with cancer, to help others in the future.
