COHOES-Joseph J. Hughes, 91 died Easter Sunday April 24, 2011 at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Born in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Sarah (Leahmy) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of the former Cathedral Academy and was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a Letter Carrier for over 35 years with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Albany Elks #49, the North Albany American Legion #1610 and the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch #29. Mr. Hughes was a Communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a charter member of the Parish Council, former President of the Holy Name Society and in 2006 he received the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award. He was an avid golfer and a fan of the Boston Red Sox. The family would like to thank the staffs at Delmar Place and Eddy Village Green for their care and support. Beloved husband of the late Rose Romanzo Hughes; father of Linda A. (David) Mahoney of Schenectady and Patricia H. (Richard) Dabrowski of Syracuse, NY; grandfather of Meaghan (Mark) Mahoney Hudson of Millsboro, DE., Taylor (Robert) Dabrowski Benson and Drew Dabrowski both of Baltimore, MD; brother of Helen Kohler of Sidney, NY and the late Elizabeth Duclos. Also survived by several nieces, nephews,
grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Friday April 29, 2011 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany on Thursday April 28, 2011 from 4-7 pm. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
