EAST GREENBUSH – John L. Hines, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Johnand Ann (Wright)Hines, Sr. John adored his mom and dad and shared an especially close bond with them. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, Cardinal McCloskey High School, and Hudson Valley Community College. John served proudly in the United States Army and the National Guard during the Vietnam War era. After retiring from the Army, John deployed his talents at Niagara Mohawk for more than three decades.

John was a Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Holy Names Society.He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, bowling, and classic cars and was a member of several bowling leagues and car clubs. John also loved to hunt and fish—passions that he learned from his dad. What John cherished most is the time he shared with his beloved wife of 43 years, Beverly Hines.

John was the husband of Beverly Barner Hines; step-father of the late JamesKnowles, II; grandfather of James Knowles, III; brother of Helene (Thomas) DePalma and Margaret “Maggie” (late Robert) Smith; brother-in-law of Ronald (Karen) Barner, Richard (Valerie) Barner, John (Barbara) Barner, and the late Michael Barner. He is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, all of whom were blessed in numerous ways by John’s unceasing support and gentle presence. John’s affection for his family, kind spirit, and readiness to laugh and stir laughter will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

John’s family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and Van Rensselaer Manor for their compassionate care and kindness.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 10:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 609 Central Ave, Albany, NY. Masks are required. Interment with Military honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc, 490 Delaware Ave., on Monday morning from 9:00-10:00 am.For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 609 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12206, or the Alzheimer’s Association of NENY, 4 Pinewest Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
