Hession, Florence

ALBANY- Florence Phelan Hession, 98, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, July 13, 2023. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of James and Mary Dwyer Phelan. She retired from the NY State Department of Corrections.

Florence was a 2011 recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award; a longtime Parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. James Church and member of the Rosary Society. Florence was an active volunteer at the Church and also visited the homebound.

She was devoted to her family and loved to babysit her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Patrick; son Sean and siblings Mary, James, Daniel, John, Philip Phelan and Marcella Koehler. She is survived by her children Patricia Churchill, Maureen Allen (Joe), Kevin Hession (Nadine), James Hession (Candy), and Martin Hession (Carol); her grandchildren Tara (Mike), Ryan (Casey), Patrick, Collin and Bailie; great-granddaughter Ava; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 9:30 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave. Albany, NY 12209.
