ALBANY- William F. Hausler, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at his home. He was born and educated in Albany, and was the son of the late William F. and Alma (Beninati) Hausler. Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Bill was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served overseas for 22 months. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart with cluster, the ETO Ribbon with five battle stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. After serving his country, he worked at R.B. Wing and Son in Albany for 40 years as a machinery mechanic. Bill was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 106 C.
When Bill retired, he became the caregiver of the love of his life, the late Katherine M. Jones, who he married in 1946. They raised eight children together and where married for 44 years, until Kay passed away in 1990. Bill’s family and his Catholic Religion were the center of his life. In retirement, Bill also became the “family” handyman helping everyone with their cars, swimming pools, decks, driveways, basketball courts and anything else that needed fixing.
He is the beloved father of Lynn Harris (Richard), William E. Hausler, Daniel F. Hausler (Pat), Brian K. Hausler (Mary), Stephen M. Hausler (Darcy), Katherine A. Jones (Robert), Maria Bongiorno (Paul Wallace) and his deceased son Kenneth J. Hausler (Patricia who survives). Bill is the cherished grandfather of Edward, Richard and Michael Harris, William, Jeffrey, Danielle, Daniel, Charles, Kristen, Kenneth, Nicholas, Heather, Jessica, Jaden, Elijah Hausler, Cory and Michael Jones, Erica Tarullo (Sean) and John Bongiorno. Bill is also the proud great-grandfather of Alisa, Katherine, Samantha, Connor and Liam Harris, Helen Maag, William, Noah, Maci, Ella, Ashley, Tyler, Riley, Paige and Chase Hausler, Anthony and Paulie Tarullo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his siblings; Ruth Brown, Esther Brooks, Edwin Hausler and Ida Mae Fifield.
Funeral services will be held 8: 15 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. 125 Eagle St., Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
