Gorgen, Olga A.

ALBANY- Olga A. Gorgen, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany.

Born June 21, 1921 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Katarzyna (Kielbasa) Wojnar. Olga graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. After graduation she worked as an Estee Lauder representative and during WWII she worked for General Electric in Schenectady. Olga was a poster girl for the war bond effort. It was while working at General Electric that she met her husband Frank Gorgen with whom she enjoyed 64 years of marriage. He predeceased Olga in 2012.

Olga’s love for travel with the Par-Nil Travel Golf League that brought her to many beautiful places throughout the United States and world. Her favorite places to visit were Poland, Austria, Hong Kong and many more, but she always said she “never realized New York was so beautiful.”

Olga’s first love was her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children Philip (Rosemary) Gorgen, Paul Gorgen, Richard (Christine) Gorgen and Diane (Michael) Cowles; her grandchildren Alexander, Laura, Zachary, Andrew, Russell and Andrea Gorgen and Samuel Cowles. She was predeceased by her 8 siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10 am in St. Vincent DePaul Church 900 Madison Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Olga’s family on Thursday April 19, 2018 from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:30 pm Friday. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O.
