Gonya, Maria A.

VOORHEESVILLE- Maria A. Gonya gained her angel wings, surrounded by her loving children on Monday, September 12, 2022. Maria was born in Albany to the marital union of Harold and Antoinette Gonya in 1954.

Maria was raised in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1972. After high school, she quickly became a loving mom and wife. Maria devoted her entire life to her three children being a stay at home mom until her youngest attended school. In addition to raising her own children, she took on caring for other’s children during the day to supplement her family income. She entered the workforce beginning at St. Peter’s Hospital in the billing department where she remained for several years before starting her career with Albany County. Maria worked with the County Law Department for several years and just retired in 2021. Maria was such a kind hearted, loving woman who certainly left her impression on this world.

Maria is survived by her loving children Michelle Dengler (Cliff), Robert Yaggle (Nicole) and Antoinette Lashway (Harold). Her biggest weakness was her grandbabies and they were her absolute pride and joy. She was so proud of each and every one of them Brian, Molly and Emma Dengler, Logan and Cole Yaggle and Shane and Kyra Lashway. She is also survived by her brother Al Luciano and sister Holly Smith; several nieces and nephews along with many dear friends she loved like family. She was predeceased by her siblings Louis and Gerald Luciano. Maria is also survived by her loving partner of 19 years, Stephen Silvano and their beloved fur baby Molly.

The family of Maria would like to express their greatest gratitude to the nurses and staff at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center for the special love, attention and compassion they gave to her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family Thursday, September 15 from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Her Funeral service will be held Friday, September 16 at 10:00 am in the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
