Gilbert, Jawara O.

ALBANY-Jawara Omar Gilbert, 38, passed away on Christmas night, December 25, 2012. Born in Tarrytown, NY he was the son of Barbara (Tillery) Gilbert of Brooklyn, NY and the late Calvin A. Gilbert.

Jawara was a creative artist and a strong community figure. Survivors in addition to his mother are his children, Jawara Jr., Hadaye and Izara Gilbert and his siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Trinity United Methodist Church, 235 Lark St., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
