Fox, James V.

d. April 2, 2018

ALBANY- James V. Fox, 73, passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospice on Monday, April 2, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Queens, NY on September 19, 1944 to Frank and Eleanor Fox. Nicknamed by his family as “rebel”, Jim lived a full life. After graduating Brooklyn Tech High School, Jim went on to a long successful career with New York State. He worked for the Public Service Commission as chief electrical inspector, the Office of General Services as an assistant mechanical construction engineer, and finally for the State Education Department as a building supervisor. After retiring in 2006 from the State of New York, Jim tried retirement, but it did not suit him. Within six months he was back to work as a fire safety inspector for the College of St. Rose. After leaving the St. Rose, Jim began working for the City of Albany as a code enforcement officer. Finally, in 2015 at the age of 71, Jim retired for good from work. In retirement, Jim’s greatest joy was taking his dogs to the dog park and spending time with his daughter Abigail.

Jim had a love of learning and never stopped taking classes. He went to HVCC for a certification in HVAC and various other courses in mechanical and electrical work. Jim also had a love of cars, motorcycles, and planes. He had his pilot’s license, and while he was a skilled pilot, he never mastered the landing. He enjoyed taking cars apart and attempting to put them back together, though not always successfully. Jim owned and rode his motorcycle into his 70s.

Jim’s greatest accomplishments, according to him, were his children. He loved them more than life itself, and repeatedly told them so. Aside from his children, Jim’s greatest love was for animals. He was known for taking in his children’s pets as his own.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved son Greg Fox, brother Charlie Fox, niece Melissa Torre, nephew Michael Rebando, and his mother and father.

Survivors include his daughters Abigail Fox and Lisa Hendley, sister Mary (Joe) Rebando, brother Frank (Joyce) Fox, his grandpuppies Oscar, Penny, and Ludo, ex-wife Roberta (Michael) Worden, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Jim’s family prior to the service on Friday from 5-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to The Community Hospice, St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation, 310 S. Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.
