Florick, Jane B.

ALBANY- Jane Barrett Florick passed peacefully at home on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Born in 1938, Jane was the daughter of the late Thomas R. Barrett of Albany and Eleanor Hatton Barrett of Manhattan. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, David L. Florick.

A 1956 graduate of the Academy of Holy Names, Jane established lifelong friendships with many of her classmates; she went on to attend Albany Business College.

Jane was a highly respected Medical Secretary employed by several prominent pediatricians and general practitioners. Known to keep the office running smoothly and efficiently, she greeted everyone with a smile and compassion. Jane was always there to lend a helping hand and an ear to those in need. She was a woman of great character and beloved by many.

Jane would often recall with great fondness the summers she would spend as a child in Monroe, New York, and was quite proud of her Manhattan roots. She shared cherished stories of her family whom she was very proud.

Jane and her husband, David, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada fondly reminiscing of their adventures together, proudly showing pictures of the places that they visited. She kept meticulous notes recording all of their travels. She enjoyed gardening, the menagerie of animals who ventured into her yard, decorating and spending time with friends.

Jane was a long time parishioner and supporter of St. Francis of Assisi Church (formerly St. James) and a generous benefactor of The Academy of Holy Names. She was a proud supporter of numerous organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Unbound Child Sponsorship program, Sierra Club, Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, and The Seeing Eye and Guide Dogs for the Blind, to name a few.

Jane is survived by numerous cousins as well as extended family and friends. She was particularly proud to be Nana to her grandchildren Justin and Sean Florick.

Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with her family at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 10-11 am prior to her funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those who wish may send memorial contributions in Jane’s memory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204.
