Ethel I. Whiteman

DELMAR- Ethel I. Whiteman, 89, passed away on Tuesday December 17, 2024 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home.

Born in Glenmont she was the daughter of the late Ida (Burckhard) and Edward Kleinke. Wife of 54 years to the late Ronald L. Whiteman. Ethel graduated from Bethlehem Central High School and she retired from Mobil Oil Co after 40 years of service.

Ethel is survived by brother Paul (Ann) Kleinke and was lovingly call aunt by four generations of many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings Helen Springer (William), Dorothy Krouse (William), Edward Kleinke (Jean) and Peter Kleinke (Linda).

She was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer, the Albany Yacht Club, Exxon Mobile Annuitants Club and the Delmar Progress Club.

The highlight of her life was her annual Christmas Eve get-together with her family and a visit from Santa who had presents for all the kids.

Funeral services will be held Saturday December 21, 2024 at 10 am in the Unity Lutheran Church 1500 Western Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Ethel’s family on Friday December 20, 2024 from 5-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. In lieu of flowers contributions to Unity Lutheran Church or Capital City Rescue Mission 259 S. Pearl St. Albany, NY 12202 will be appreciated.
