LELAND, NC- Edith F. Brady, 100 passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 peacefully at home with her family by her side. Born in Albany, NY on March 27, 1925 to the late Joseph A. Zappone and Bessie (Nardolillo) Zappone. Edith graduated from Cathedral Academy and later in life returned to further her education and receive a bachelors degree as medical technologist at Empire State College. Throughout her career she encouraged and mentored many incoming lab technologists and phlebotomists. She worked at the VA Hospital in Albany, NY for 20 years simultaneously working at St. Peter’s Hospital where she continued to work into her 80s before fully retiring. Edith was always an active member of the Catholic Church community both in New York and North Carolina where she spent the last 18 years of her life. She prayed daily at the start of the day and had a love of the outdoors and she continued with that love to the end. Edith wore many hats in the 100 years she was with us, she was quick to make a friend and cared deeply for those friends. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Edith was predeceased by her beloved daughter Patricia M. Dougherty; her sisters Delores Myers, Tina Germain and brother Joseph Zappone. She is survived by her son James J. (Mary) Brady; grandchildren Colleen (Nicholas) Regalla; Heather (Ethan) Nolan, April Tambasco; great grandchildren Zachary (Haley) Nolan, Abigail Nolan, Brady Tambasco; and the joy of her life great-great grandson Reid Nolan. Also survived are her sisters Rosalie Cilwick and Anne Trombley along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express gratitude to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the care she received and a special thank you to Kateri and Wendy for her direct care for whom she absolutely adored. A Mass of Christian Burial will be will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception 125 Eagle St. Albany on Friday April 25, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
