ALBANY- On Sunday, December 13, 2020, Matthew John Dwyer, loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted Catholic passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71.
A life-long Albany resident, Matt was born on October 10, 1949, son of the late John and Carolyn Dwyer and was predeceased by his sisters Carol Fox (Leonard) and Barbara Passineau (Edward).
Matt graduated from Christians Brothers Academy. He then went on to SUNY Brockport, majoring in Health but more importantly enjoying his time on the football field and meeting the love of his life, Sue Huffsmith whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Matt retired from NiMo in 2006 after 30 years in a career he enjoyed.
Matt dedicated his life to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan; his three children Kelly (John Knoetgen), John (Kate) and Andrew (Erin) and his pride and joys – his 12 grandchildren; siblings Daniel Dwyer (Marge), and Mary Beth Plonka (Mike) and close, dear friend Neil O’Connor.
Matt loved spending the summer months fishing and boating at the camp on Sacandaga Lake. He was a coach, a proud Eagle Scout and enjoyed golfing at Capital Hills Golf Course. He was an avid hunter, a huge Notre Dame andNY Giants fan and was always on the sidelines or bleachers- never missing his grandkids games.
Matt’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, December 18 at 12:00 noon at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his family at the Church prior to the Mass from 10:00 am to 11:45 am. Masks and social distancing will be required and occupancy limitations will be followed. Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
