GLENMONT- Our heart is broken but not gone with the passing of Shirley Mae Dopp on Sunday, July 10, 2011. She is still here in the presence of her four children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her family was her center and she raised her children alone after the passing of her Donald W. Dopp in 1967.
Shirley was born in Nelliston, NY and lived in St. Johnsville where she graduated from high school. She went on to New York City where she attended the New York School of Design. She then married and lived the next sixty years in Glenmont, NY where she raised her family. She loved art, gardening, nature, made a great pot of chili, and spent many happy summers at the family camp on Canada Lake. She was a volunteer and taught Sunday school at the First Reformed Church when her kids were attending, and also was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Shirley was a past President of the ladies Auxiliary of the Bethlehem Elks Lodge #2233 and she and Don her husband were very active in that organization.
Shirley leaves behind her children, Susan Demarest (Wes), Donald L. Dopp (JoAnn), Daniel W. Dopp (Cindy) and Judith E. Dopp (Jeff). Also grandchildren, Hannah, Ben and Nick Rutkowski, Wesley, Kevin and Jason Demarest; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Courtney Demarest, Tyler, Alex and Charlie Demarest; a sister-in-law, Diane Decker.
