ALBANY- Jean Mahan DeNyse, 89, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born and educated in Albany, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Catherine (Gleason) Mahan, Jr. She was a graduate of St. Joseph School in Albany and attended Cathedral Academy. Jean worked for Continental Insurance Company and also for the New York State Department of Corrections for many years. She was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s Church and St. Catherine of Siena Church (currently The Parish of Mater Christi). Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, staying active and more recently playing bingo at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her aunts, Marie and Kathleen Mahan, Rita Rogler, Gertrude Shea and Emma Sillery; her cousins Catherine Sillery Taaffe and William Shea.
She is survived by her cousins Barbara Rogler (Armand) Guerin, Eileen Shea Porter and Francis E. (Mary Catherine) Rogler.
Jean’s family would like to thank the staff on the third floor at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehab for their loving care and kindness to Jean.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with her family at the funeral home Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3-6 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany, NY 12208.
