ALBANY- Cosimo DeLeo, completed his life here on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in his home. Born in 1923 in Siderno Marina, Calabria, Italy, Cosimo was the son of the late Francesco DeLeo and Maria Teresa (Ieraci). As a young boy, Cosimo started selling tomatoes and fresh fish to nearby towns to help feed his family. Fighting for the Italian army in WWII, Cosimo was captured and then imprisoned in Siberia. He eventually made his way back to Siderno to reunite with his family and in 1949 immigrated to the US. Resuming his business interests, Cosimo (or Ciccio as he was known) owned and operated Cosimo’s Italian/American Restaurant on Western Ave. in Albany with his two brothers-in-law. An institution in Albany, many will remember gathering at Cosimo’s restaurant. Cosimo loved his garden, his fig tree and above all, his family.

Cosimo is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Rosina Commisso, his brother Dominick and sister Carolina DeLeo, his daughter Laura and his grandson Christopher Dailey. Cosimo is survived by his three sisters, Rose DiLeo, Elvira Pollichieni and Maria Romeo all of Toronto, Canada and his brother Attilio DiLeo (Frances) of Long Island; his sisters-in-law Angie Commisso, Vincenzina Commisso and Angie Camarata (Chris), and his brother–in-law Antonio Commisso of Naples, FL; his seven children Frank DeLeo (Kathleen) of Delanson, Cosimo Crupi (Anne) of Guilderland, Dominick DeLeo of Albany, Maria Dailey (Mark) of Saratoga Springs, Lisa Brogan (Timothy) of Clifton Park, Gina Kennedy (David) of Latham and Rosanna Bonacci of Guilderland; his grandchildren, Frank, Joseph, Laura Rose, Jenna, Michael, Brendan, Madeline, Zinera, Valentina and Sofia; as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

A special thank you to the many caregivers who cared for our Dad in the last few years of his life.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Friday, September 8, from 4-7 p.m.in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 9, at 9 a.m. in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
