EAST BERNE- Anthony J. DeGaetano, 87, died suddenly, Thursday, January 19, 2012 at his home. Born and educated in Albany he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Viglucci) DeGaetano. Mr. DeGaetano graduated from CBA, Syracuse University and Albany Law School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Psychiatric Social worker at Fort Hood. Mr. DeGaetano was an Attorney in private practice for over 50 years, retiring in 2005. The time spent in Family Court was closest to his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (Sakrenz) DeGaetano, his children; Richard Marc (Wanda) DeGaetano of Toronto, Canada, Raoul H. DeGaetano of Saratoga and Mia T. (Gerald Daguillo) DeGaetano of E. Berne; grandchildren, Harley, Dylan, and William; his brother Richard Joe (Martha) DeGaetano of Gaithersburg, Maryland; niece and nephew, Michele (Lamar) Hall and their daughter Emma, and Michael (Lisa) DeGaetano and their children Jaymie and Luke. He is also survived by his aunts, Isabel Carey and Marie Reith and many cousins, his very close German family especially, Christa, also Gerd, Heiko, Lutz, Kevin and their families; and very special friends Laura and Bob, Bill and Linda, Mary and Tom. Tony was a compassionate person who loved a good debate, was a voracious reader with a love of history, enjoyed good food and good wine. Tony loved traveling, being with family and friends and meeting people. Calling hours will be held in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave., Albany Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 1 to 3 pm. Following the calling hours, all are welcome to join the family at the Italian American Community Center, 257 Washington Ave. Ext. Albany, NY 12205 from 4-8 pm.
