COX, JOHN F.
ALBANY- John “Jack” F. Cox, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend to all who loved him. He was the son of the late Joseph B. Cox, Sr. and Elizabeth (Flaherty) Cox.
A 1936 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, he was a veteran of World War II. Jack worked for the A & P Warehouse for many years and retired from the New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission in 1985. He loved the Boston Red Sox, Notre Dame football and was a lifelong fan. He enjoyed sports on tv, golf and crossword puzzles which he solved daily.
Most recently, he was a resident of Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, NY. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff for their love and care.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margaret E. (Ryan) Cox; his three daughters, Christine C. Fensley (Bruce) of Southern Pines, NC., Kathleen A. Cox-Morris (Donald L. Morris) and Colleen M. Hassett (Steven) all of Guilderland, NY. Jack was the proud grandfather of Meg E. Wilber (Richard) of Rolesville, NC., and great-grandfather of John F. Wilber and Joshua A. Wilber. He also
leaves his sister, Catherine J. Mantica of Slingerlands, NY and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth R. Cox of Albany and Helen M. Chamberlain of Clifton Park, NY in addition to many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his brothers; Joseph B. Cox, Jr. and Robert W. Cox, as well as his sister, Sister Catherine B. Cox, CSJ.
At his request, there will be no viewing hours. Jack wished to be cremated and laid to rest at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A Mass to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 10:00 am in Christ The King Church, Sumpter Ave., Guilderland. The interment will be Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, 315 So. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
