Cosenke, Bernard J.

ALBANY- Bernard J. Cosenke, 88, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Stratton VA Medical Center.

Born in Albany he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Flemming) Cosenke. Bernie was old Albany. His service in the Coast Guard during World War II brought him around the world. He returned to help his mother and made Albany his lifelong home. He was a man of generous heart and a friend to all in his neighborhood. He frequented the Albany Public Library to satisfy his love of reading and was well known over the years for his calls to the Professor on WROW (Bernie’s on air name was Lou).

Father of Stephen (Kelly) Cosenke of Springfield, MA; grandfather of Owen, Trevor and Calvin Cosenke also of Springfield; brother of Sr. Gertrude Cosenke, RSCJ of Albany and the late Joseph Cosenke. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Cosenke of Washington, DC. and several nieces and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:00am in St. John’s / St. Ann’s Church in the South End, 4th Ave. at Franklin St., Albany. Interment will follow the Mass in the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
