DELMAR- Henry F. Clas, Sr. 89, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center surrounded by his family. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Henry W. Clas, a former Postmaster of Albany and Fredericka (Schenck) Clas. He was a graduate of Albany High School and a Navy Veteran of WWII,where he served in the Pacific Campaign and participated in the Invasion of Okinawa. Mr. Clas was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service until 1955 when he and his wife , the late Norma founded Henry F. Clas Florist in the Crestwood Plaza. The business was moved in 1961 to 404 New Scotland Avenue where it continues today.
Mr. Clas was a member and Past Master of the Free and Accepted Masons-Ancient Temple Lodge #14, a member of the Cyprus Shriners, the Evangelical Protestant Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Husband of the late Norma G. (Patterson) Clas; father of Suzan B. Tuttle of Niskayuna, Charles S. Clas, Sr. of Delmar and the late Henry F. Clas, Jr.; father-in-law of Jeanne Connors, Susan A. Clas and Joseph R. Tuttle; grandfather of Marie Clas McCreary, April A. Clas, Charles S. Clas, Jr., Marcelle L. Tuttle, Scott R. Clas and Jason H. Clas; great-grandfather of Haley E. Crast;
brother of Frederick Clas of Niskayuna and the late Paul Clas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center for the care and kindness extended to Henry during his stay.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 am Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
