Cavanaugh, Judith A.

ALBANY- Judith A. Myers Cavanaugh, 81, passed away on August 24, 2022 at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn. She was born in Albany, NY, daughter of Thomas Myers and Rita and Patrick Casey. Judi was educated at the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany and the University of Connecticut at Storrs. She was married to the love of her life, John J.(Jack) Cavanaugh Jr. for 47 years. Together they traveled extensively to all continents except Antarctica. She had a successful career with various New York State departments, retiring as Director of Returns Processing Bureau at NYS Tax and Finance. In retirement, Judi enjoyed golfing in two golf leagues, one as treasurer. She was an ardent fan of horse racing, her beloved UConn women’s basketball, and the Saratoga racino. Judi received the Academy of the Holy Names 2015 John Henry Farrell Building the Future Award. She also volunteered with the Zonta Club of Albany in many capacities, highlighted by receiving the 2018 Zontian of the Year award. She was a volunteer with the Mater Christi Food Pantry and the church’s Family Promise Program.

Judi was predeceased by her parents; husband Jack; brothers in-law Miles Cavanaugh, Joseph Bonavita and Thomas Zuchero. She is survived by her cousin Cynthia Galivan; sisters in-law Jane Bonavita, Mary O’Hair and Judith Zuchero; her lifelong friend Ri Cratty; several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Judi’s family on Wednesday, August 31, from 4-7 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 1, at 10:00 am in The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. followed by entombment in the mausoleum of St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
