ALBANY, NY - (Mary) Lorraine Cox Carpenter, affectionately known as Nana Carpenter, age 92, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

Born in Troy, Lorraine was the daughter of the late John Joseph Cox and Nora O’Donnell Cox. She was predeceased in death by her husband George J. Carpenter and her sisters, Joan Cox Hatfield and Eileen Cox Martin.

Lorraine is survived by her loving children Noreen Carpenter Conte and her husband, Robert, of Wildwood, MO, Kevin Carpenter and his wife, Lauren, of Ballston Lake, Mark Carpenter of Boston, and Joan Carpenter Pritchard and her husband, Michael, of Niskayuna. She was the beloved Nana to her grandchildren Matthew Conte (Lauren), Katherine Carpenter (Kyle), Elizabeth Cunningham (Sean), Drew Carpenter (Blair), Jack Carpenter, Evan Pritchard, Jillian Pritchard and Daniel Pritchard. Nana Carpenter was also the proud great-grandmother of Fiona Conte, Kroy Carpenter, and Cecilia, John Paul, Monica, Brigid and Patrick Cunningham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who are all honored to be members of “Cox’s Army.”

A proud graduate of Albany’s Vincentian Institute, Lorraine went on to become a Rosebud, Class of 1951, at the College of St. Rose where she majored in Economics. After college Lorraine worked for the American Locomotive Company in personnel and at the Empire State Chamber of Commerce as a research associate.

Lorraine and George married in 1956 and started their family on Glendale Avenue in Albany before moving to Delmar in 1970. As their children grew, Lorraine volunteered much of her time in the Bethlehem Central School system and the Bethlehem Library. She was very active over the years in the College of St. Rose Alumni Association, Delmar Progress Club, and her class from St. Teresa of Avila.

Throughout her life Lorraine shared a love of music and golf with George. They were members for many years at Normanside Country Club in Delmar. Lorraine also enjoyed many years of playing bridge and she never missed an opportunity to don her swim cap and swim a few laps when the opportunity arose starting with summer camp days at Marion Lodge. Whether it be a pool, river, lake or the beaches of Cape Cod, Lorraine was always the first one in the water.

Family and friends are invitedtovisitation on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 9:30 am-10:30 amin the Chapel of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Herfuneral Mass will be celebrated after the viewing at 10:30 am in the Church. COVID-19 protocols will be in place including social distancing and masks will be required by everyone attending.
