ALBANY - Brian Connolly Loerzel, 54, died at home on Monday, December 23, 2024. Brian was born in Albany and was the son of Kathleen Flanagan Loerzel and the late Lorenz Loerzel. Brian was predeceased by his brother and best friend Kurt, his grandparents Dorothy and Lorenz Loerzel and Michael and Kathleen Flanagan. Brian is survived by his loving mother, Kathleen Flanagan Loerzel. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles; Joyce Flanagan; Thomas DePalma and Doris (John Barr). In addition, Brian is survived by his godson Remy Boyea, and an extended family of the most loving and supportive cousins and many long-time friends.
Brian grew up in Albany, graduating from Albany High School and Junior College of Albany. Brian continued his education, graduating from New York University with a degree in linguistics. Brian was an exceptional writer and communicator. He used those skills in creating, managing, and clarifying numerous healthcare contracts for multiple health plans and writing for an online magazine. Brian had many diverse interests including a passion for travel; his trips abroad allowed him the opportunity to enjoy the energy and vibrancy of big cities. He loved his travels to London, Dublin, Brussels and New York City but reserved a special love for Paris where he returned many times. His love of cooking led him to attend Le Cordon Bleu where he mastered the art of making macarons. He delighted friends and family with batches of his delicious treats. Brian loved music, especially going to live concerts with friends. His artistic ability and creativity were shared and appreciated by his family’s non-profit foundation in memory of his beloved grandfather Michael. Brian’s kindness, gentle spirit, razor sharp sense of humor, laughter, and beautiful smile that could light up any room are the qualities his friends and family will miss the most.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Brian’s life on Saturday January 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Martel’s Restaurant, 65 O’Neil Rd, Albany, NY 12208. Brian’s family wishes to thank the Albany Fire Department EMT’s, the Albany Police Department and the ambulance crews for their professionalism and compassion assisting Brian over the last two years.
