DELMAR – Virginia (Tobin) Blackwell died peacefully at home on Monday, October 1, 2018, in the loving company of her son, Chris, and her granddaughter, Courtney.
Born December 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Emily Crotty Tobin, and sister of the late John C. Tobin. Virginia was a graduate of The Academy of the Holy Names and Mildred Elley Business School. She was proud to have retired from the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System. Virginia was a long-time member of the Normanside Country Club, where she was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed socializing and playing bridge with friends.
On July 31, 1943, she married her beloved husband, the late William C. Blackwell. Together they had three sons, William B. (Paula) Blackwell of Edinburg, NY; the late Jeffrey (Susan, deceased) of Standish, ME; and Chris Blackwell of Albany, NY. Virginia is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a special relationship with her great-granddaughter and “little buddy,” Hazel Rice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service Friday, October 5 at 11:00. am in St. Agnes Cemetery, 48 Cemetery Avenue, Menands. Please gather in the cemetery parking lot by 10:50 am.
