ALBANY- Kevin John Bauer, 65, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 after a three year struggle with ALS.
Born in Brooklyn, NY he graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1975 and continued on to pursue graduate studies in Philosophy at Niagara University and then, as a graduate fellow at Georgetown University from 1979-1982 under the Joseph and Rose Kennedy Fellowship for Bio-ethical Research. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1985 and moved to Buffalo where he began his career working for the law practice of Eugene C. Tenney. He served as law clerk to Hon. Thomas F McGowan, JSC in the NY State Supreme Court System prior to going into private practice, where he handled complicated appeals for lawyers and law firms across NY State. While practicing law in Buffalo, he served as adjunct professor at Canisius College. In 1990, he moved to Albany and shortly thereafter became an adjunct professor of Philosophy at Hudson Valley Community College until his retirement in 2017. Kevin was a member of the NYS Bar Association and former chair of the Appeals Committee of that association.
Kevin was a gifted writer an avid reader, and was well respected for his scholarship in appellate law and generosity of giving his time in pro bono work. His heart and passion were however, in teaching and working with his students. He was known to all as a most devoted husband and father, and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 33 years, Mary Claire (Schwartz) Bauer and his devoted daughter Molly.
Kevin’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday March 23 at 11:00 am in St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family Friday, March 22 from 4-6 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may send donations to St. Peter’s ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Road, Albany, NY 12205.
