ALBANY Margaret Mary Basco (Rowe), 57, entered into eternal rest on Friday June 9, 2017 leaving behind a legacy of love for her family and her St. Peter’s Hospice co-workers. Known as Peggy by her family, she was born in Albany, New York on June 27, 1959, sharing this birthday with her older brother, David E. Rowe, Jr. Margaret is the youngest daughter of the late David E. and Mary R Rowe. "Nanny Peg" is predeceased by her grandchildren, Ashley Troestler, Joseph Troestler, and William Egan, Jr., and her great-niece, Hope Ann Kuftiak. She was educated at St. James Elementary School, graduated from Albany High School and earned degrees in early childhood education and dental assisting from Hudson Valley Community College and CNA certification . For the last 15 years she worked alongside the compassionate and caring staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital as one of their own. “Margaret”, as she was fondly called by her hospice co-workers, was a dedicated and compassionate hospice caregiver until her cancer diagnosis last year. With her indomitable spirit, she assisted her “hospice family” to bring healing, wholeness and comfort to patients and their families - her greatest joy. She was a teacher, a mentor and friend to many. Peg was a loving and caring wife to her husband, Marcello C. Basco, and a caring, loving and protective mother to their son, Christopher C. Basco and her stepchildren Kimberly Basco of Albany and John Troestler of Myrtle Beach, S.C. She will always be loved and remembered as a strong, courageous and caring sibling by her sisters and brothers, Maureen D. (Thomas) Rizzi of Niskayuna, Paula R. Mitchell of Atlantic Beach, N.C., Bonny C. Julien-Curry of Watervliet, David E. Rowe Jr. (Jodi Rench) of Valdosta, Ga., Patricia C.(Joseph) Bassler of Torrington, Conn., and Matthew J. (Kristin) Rowe of Cary, N.C. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, her life-long friend, Cindy Dowse Hoffman, and the caring Basco family. Peg appreciated the kind and compassionate care of her doctors and nurses, especially oncologists Dr Stephen Wrzesinski and Ellen McGrann, PA; radiologist Dr. Christian A. Gasson; her surgeon, Dr Dennis Rassias, and the St. Peters Cancer Center Infusion staff. A private celebration of her life and love for hospice will be held at St. Peter’s Hospital. It is Peg’s wish that contributions be made in her memory to the Community Hospice Foundation (memo: Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s), 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 in lieu of flowers.
