MENANDS- Sister Elizabeth Ann Baldino, DC died April 6, 2018 at St. Louise Residence in Menands. She was 101 years of age, 81 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 27, 1917, Sister Elizabeth Ann, nee Euphemia, was the second of three children born to Dominic and Rosina Baldino. At age 14 her father had come to the USA from Naples, Italy. Their children were Phyllis, Euphemia, and Dominic; Rose died giving birth to Dominic.The girls, age 4 and 2, were raised at the Gonzaga Home by the Daughters of Charity while their baby brother was raised by an aunt. Six years later their father was killed in a gas explosion.

Euphemia graduated from J.W. Hallahan Catholic High School in 1935 and entered the Daughters of Charity May 30, 1936. Sister Elizabeth Ann earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, MD in 1959, and her Master of Science Degree in English Education from Fairfield University, CT in 1970.

After initial formation at St. John’s School for Girls, Baltimore, MD and the Daughters ofCharity Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD, Sister Elizabeth Ann served at St. Vincent’s Home and School, Detroit, MI (1937-1943); St. Joseph’s School, Baltimore, MD (1943-1946); St. James School, Johnson City, NY (1946-1957); St. Joseph Central High, Petersburg, VA (1957-1967); McCloskey High School, Albany, NY (1967-1969); St. Vincent’s Hospital, Bridgeport, CT (1969-1970) ; Seton High School, Endicott, NY (1970-1976); parish minister at St. Vincent’s Church while living at St. Joseph’s Hall, Philadelphia, PA (1976-1978);parish minister at St. Paul’s Church, living at St. Peter’s School, Wilmington, DE (1978-1983);Kennedy Child Center, New York, NY (1983-1984);parish minister at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, Bayside, NY (1984-1992); sacristan at DePaul Provincial House, Albany, NY (1992-1995); Rosalie Rendu House, Niagara Falls, NY (1995-1996);DePaul Provincial House, Albany, NY (1996-2003), and St. Louise House in Albany where Sister entered the Ministry of Prayer in 2003 and continued in this ministry until the time of her death.

Sister Elizabeth Ann is survived by her niece, Beth Larson, grandniece Dawn Jones and cousin, Carolyn Conboy, her Sisters in Community, and many friends.

A Wake for Sister Elizabeth Ann Baldino, D.C., will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 4 to 7 pm at DePaul House Chapel 96 Menand Road, Menands. A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Elizabeth Ann will be celebrated Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 10:30 am in DePaul House Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY.
