ALBANY-John S. Bakke, 90, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Bakke was the son of the late John and Olava (Myrstad) Bakke. He had lived in Albany since 1948. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. Mr. Bakke was an engineer with Albany International (the former Albany Felt Co.) for more than 34 years. He was a member of the Third Reformed Church, the Wadsworth Masonic Lodge #417, and the Senior Citizens of Albany. He loved to dance with his wife, especially square dancing. Mr. Bakke also taught Line Dancing for 17 years at the Louise Corning Senior Center.
He was the loving husband of Florence (Newhouse) Bakke; father of Diane B. Tennant and her husband Philip; brother of the late Judith B. Christiansen; grandfather of Hillary Tennant and her husband Marvin Sun, and Andrew Tennant; great-grandfather of Evan, Tate and Gideon Sun. He is also survived by a cousin.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in the Third Reformed Church, 20 Ten Eyck Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Wednesday, July13, 2011 4-7 pm. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John may be made to the Third Reformed Church, 20 Ten Eyck Ave., Albany, NY 12209.
