Arlene B. Giroux

ALBANY -Arlene B. (VanAlstyne) Giroux, 100, died Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Baptist Health Nursing Center in Scotia.

Born in Gloversville she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Bowler) VanAlstyne. Mrs. Giroux was a graduate of the former Philip Schuyler High School. She was a homemaker and after raising her family she entered the work force and worked for Sterling Drug in Rensselaer for more than 8 years. Mrs. Giroux was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Guilderland where she served as a greeter for Sunday services and was a former choir member. She was a great lover of music and enjoyed attending shows at the Troy Music Hall and the Times Union Center.

She was the wife of the late Wilfred Joseph Giroux, Jr.; mother of Linda G. (Peter) Halbrend and Ellen (Chuck Dings) Giroux; grandmother of Erik (Sarah) Halbrend of NC, Kristen (Timothy) Spielman of Colorado, and Michael Halbrend of Schenectady; great-grandmother of Braeden, Abigail, Evan, Emilynn, Liliana, Cailyn and Cameron; sister of the late Vivian, George and Donald VanAlstyne and Shirley (Chuck) Generali; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont will be held at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
