FEURA BUSH - Anthony Schipano, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 20, 2024 with his family at his side. He was born in Albany on June 12, 1931 to the late Pasquale and Catherine Bellia Schipano. Starting out shining shoes on the streets of Albany at age 5, to working for the railroad, to driving cab, Tony then served the city of Albany as a fireman and an EMT at Engine 5 in the South End. He retired after 32 years and was known for being the best cook at the firehouse. He also worked for the Little Sisters of the Poor for 17 years. He served our country in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. Tony married Dorothy Delaney in 1952 and together they raised six children. In 1971 the family moved to Feura Bush, and he was a volunteer for Onesquethaw Ambulance. Tony enjoyed hunting small game and fishing with his brother Sam, going to lunch with his sister Carolyn, picnicking at Thacher Park, and he especially enjoyed spending lots of time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Dorette Schipano, his siblings Carolyn Meliti and Sam Schipano, and his beloved niece Catherine Green.
Tony leaves behind his loving wife of 72 years, Dorothy Schipano; and his children, Patsy Schipano, Linda (Robert) Rabbin, Anthony J. (Rita) Schipano, Susan (Glenn) Evans, and Vincent (Rachel) Schipano. He was known as Papa and GG to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, William Delaney; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday November 29th from 4 to 7pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 30th at 10am at the funeral home. He will then be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.
