Allen, Lloyd “Wayne”

FUERA BUSH- Lloyd “Wayne” Allen 85, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Lloyd and Anna Allen. Wayne attended Philip Schuyler High School until the 11th grade when he joined the United States First Marine Division. He was honorably discharged after World War II having earned the rank of Corporal. In August of 1950 he was recalled to active duty and served in Korea. Wayne was one of the original U.S. Marines involved in the brutal march out of the Chosin Resevoir in November/December 1950 where allied troops succeeded in avoiding annihilation by fighting their way out of a deadly trap set by the Communist Enemy. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in August of 1951. He received two purple hearts during his military career.

Wayne retired from SUNY Albany as the Chief of Utilities after 38 years of service.

Even looking back over his accomplishments in the military and his successful career at SUNY Albany, what he was most proud of was building his home. Together, with his wife Lorraine, they started building their dream house in 1963 and it was completed in 1966.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lorraine (Merganthaler) Allen of Feura Bush; his daughter, Cynthia Ann Sawicki and her husband John of East Greenbush; his son, Glen Allen and his wife Jennifer of

E. Berne; four grandchildren, Amanda Allen, Lori (John) Allen Kalamajka, Adam Sawicki and John Sawicki, Jr. and the “apple of his eye”, great-grandson, Deegan Kalamajka. He is also survived by his beloved niece, 3 nephews and 2 step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard Allen.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family at a later date.
